Class Rules/ Expectations
1.When Entering the Classroom - Enter quietly. Pick up papers from back table. Be seated and begin BW (Bell (Daily)Work)
2. When the Bell Rings - After daily prayer, take out homework due today.
3. When the Teacher is Talking, You Should Not Be! - The teacher will raise her hand. Freeze. Turn to teacher. Be quiet and listen!
4. When You Need Help - Raise your hand without talking.
5. When You Need to Sharpen Your Pencil - You may quietly get out of your seat and sharpen your pencil if this is during a work period.
6. When Turning in Papers - Set in a pile on top corner of desk to your left/right. When all papers have been arrived at you, place on desk to your left/right! (Do NOT hand to a person!) Student in front takes all the papers to the color coordinated hand-in folder.
7. When Working in Small Groups - Everyone faces the group's center. Use “10 inch voices,” please! Talk only to your group. Focus. Stay on task! Clean up after all activities. Your mom doesn't work here.
8. When Playing a Team Game - All Team Members must meet at assigned area with game pieces within one minute of Teacher Signal. Show answer when Teacher says, “Show Me the Answer.” All Team Members must be facing toward the center of the group and participating to receive full points for a correct answer.
10. When You are Absent - Check the "While You Were Out" folders near the door. Remove all packets with your name on it. Also check the Class Agenda for the days you missed to see what activities you missed. Some labs will need to be made up after school.
11. When Changing Groups/Stations - Collect all materials. Wait for teacher signal. Move quietly to new seat. Sit down and begin work.
12. When You Pick Up New Papers - Keep out on your table or put in the your folder as instructed.
13. When You Have a Work Period - Talk only with your Table Partners. (Don’t turn around!) Stay on task. (Don’t pack up early!) You may quietly get up to sharpen your pencil. Raise your hand for help from the Teacher.
14. When You are Taking a Test - Eyes forward at all times. No looking around. No talking is permitted. (Even to borrow something. Ask the teacher!) Turn your Quiz over and wait quietly. Tests may be turned in when you are finished. Walk up to the teacher with questions about the test. You must be sure that nothing is showing from your notebook/binder. Cheaters get zeros!
16. When the End-of-Period Bell Rings - The teacher dismisses class, NOT the bell! If Class Books are being used, have them stacked at top of desk. Quietly remain seated when bell rings. When teacher dismisses the class, stand, push in chair, and quietly exit the classroom.
Science Student Safety Contract
All students should be able to work in safe laboratories. Permission to work in the science laboratory is a privilege. All students are financially responsible for lost or damaged equipment due to negligent or irresponsible behavior. To be afforded this opportunity, you should read the laboratory policy procedure below and sign it.
1. Never perform unauthorized experiments or use any equipment or instruments without proper instruction. Follow all instructions given by the instructor including special directions for all individual experiments.
2. Do not enter the stock/supply/back storage rooms. Do not work in the laboratory unless the instructor is present.
3. Proper eye protection must to be worn when the potential for eye injury exists: spilling or splashing of hot or hazardous chemicals. All spills must be cleaned up appropriately.
4. Proper clothing is to be worn to protect against burns and/or chemical spill: lab aprons/coats. Sleeves must be rolled up and no dangling jewelry is allowed in the laboratory. Long hair is to be tied back or confined.
5. Do not eat, or drink anything in the lab at any time. Do not use any lab containers for food or drink.
6. Consider every chemical dangerous. Avoid inhaling fumes, pipetting by mouth, or tasting, touching, or smelling any chemical unless specifically told to do so by the instructor. If chemicals splash on skin or clothing, rinse immediately with large quantities of tepid water and inform me immediately.
7. Nothing is to be taken from the laboratory unless checked out to you in writing by the instructor.
8. Never become involved in horseplay or practical jokes.
9. Never force glass tubing into a cork or stopper.
10. Never point a test tube toward yourself or anyone else.
11. Only pins and specimens are allowed in dissecting trays. Instruments not being used are to remain in the kit. Those in use are to be placed on a paper towel beside the tray.
12. Discard only those liquids or solids in the sink as indicated by the instructor.
13. Keep all non-laboratory materials other than notebooks away from all stations.
14. Note the location and be familiar with the operation of any safety equipment.
15. The instructor must be immediately notified in the event of an accident.
16. For safety violations in a lab, a SAFETY TICKET will be issued. The first safety ticket will constitute a warning. Upon receiving 3 safety tickets, all lab privileges will be suspended until a conference with parents, administrators, student, and teacher has taken place. The teacher reserves the right to suspend lab privileges ON THE SPOT due to inappropriate or dangerous behavior in lab.
17. Prior to lab usage, a test shall be administered requiring 100% mastery before work on first lab.
